Mr. Oizo Talks DSLR, Rubber, and plays live in NYC

Mr. Oizo (Quentin Dupieux) is a music producer and film director. He’s known for his eclectic production style. To place him in a genre of Electronic music is to do him a disservice. His intricate production features chopped up vocal samples, mostly from obscure Disco tracks, distorted synths, cut-up basslines and non-sequential sample pieces, that float around his tracks. He’s definitely mastered modulation and waveshaping/distortion, a style that is often emulated but never duplicated. He is currently signed to French electro record label, Ed Banger Records. He collaborated with label mate Gaspard AugĂ© on the soundtrack to his latest feature “Rubber” (View Trailer).

Oizo’s first single was “Flat Beat” was released in 1999, but after the French Electro resurgence in 2006, the popularity of Ed Banger stable presented us with a new musical approach by Oizo.

We caught up with Quentin at a Girls & Boys event (Webster Hall NYC) and picked his brain about his use of the Cannon 5D Mark II, and the hurdles he overcame shooting a Feature length film with it. You can download the complete audio interview below.
