Skrillex in Ibiza

Things have been really hectic over at One and Only Productions; in a good way of course. We have been touring with Skrillex the past couple of weeks and have assimilated over 60 hours of tour footage. Expect more goodies to pop on his Youtube in the next few weeks. We feel truly blessed to be a part of the Skrillex project and we hope to continue to deliver quality content that will continue to push the envelope and remain fresh and inspiring to all artists who are not only fans of his work but of ours as well.

Sazon Booya!

If you haven’t heard of Sazon Booya by now, saying you’re out of the loop would be an understatement. Sazon Booya is the brain-seed of Mr. Vega (Founder of Rot10 Musik, DJ, Producer) and Stephen Vasquez (Mastermind behind “The Electro Wars”). The NYC-natives specialize in 100% pure Moombahton, and if you have no clue as to what Moombahton is, I suggest you stop reading for a second, open a new tab, and google away.

So let’s see, in the span of approximately four months, Sazon Booya has managed to gain support from Moombahton architect, Dave Nada, along with Skrillex, Heartbreak, Munchi, Boyfriend, Kid Cedek, ETC!ETC!, and a slew of other artist.  They’ve released their debut EP (La Bomba) with two music videos (Bam Bam and La Bomba), DJ’ed alongside Laidback Luke and Benny Benassi, had their first music video posted by Skrillex via Facebook, and have been featured on the MTV and Mad Decent websites. Oh, and let’s not forget to mention DJ Kayper of BBC Radio 1 Asia, dropping Bam Bam during her show. Oh yeah, and Mr. Vega filling in for Munchi at the Mad Decent Party at Le Bain this past Friday.

It’s pretty overwhelming to know that this is only the beginning. Moombahton is only about a year old and we’re already starting to see compilation mixes and music videos. Sazon Booya has definitely planted their flag into planet Moombahton and it won’t be moving anytime soon.

La Bomba features 7 freshly baked tracks, including collaborations with Willie Bones, Amy Douglas, El Chombo, and Principal. You can go grab La Bomba on iTunes or Beatport now!

Steve Aoki at Starscape 2011

Steve Aoki, owns a Indie label (Dim Mak), travels the world, collabs with some of the greatest producers on the planet, and single handedly transformed the traditional DJ experience into a one man rage-a-thon. If you’ve never caught Aoki live you’re definitely missing out on some of the finer things in life.

Over the years Aoki has taken his brand from tastemaker circles into the more elaborate festival market. The man now plays for thousands of people worldwide. I first met Steve in a small club in the LES (’06). EDM and DJ Culture has come a long way since then in the States.

We caught up with Steve at this year’s Starscape 2011 Festival in Baltimore, Maryland. And, well here’s what we captured…

The Electro Wars Aftermath

Now that the film has been out on the webz for a week, I thought a post was in order. I can’t even begin to describe how elated I am with all this positive feedback we’ve been receiving. I’d like to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for watching the film, even those who claim they could not stomach the first few minutes. Truth is most of you took ninety minutes of your time, depending on your internet connection, to watch something we created with no expectations, and for that, we are truly grateful. It’s also pretty dope that Pitchfork gave us a platform to stream the damn thing! Believe me… we were just as antsy as all of you to release this bad boy. The film has opened up so many doors for us and we have progressed a great deal as a production company since this film. We hope to continue to build our brand without ever ccomprimising our vision.

The overwhelming majority loved, and genuinely enjoyed the film, judging by the barrage of Tweets and Facebook comments. People who dislike it are in the minority, and that’s a good thing. Some early skeptics have come around and praised the film’s ambition, but there were some who claim they couldn’t sit through the first ten minutes. Here are some of my favorites, “ it’s cringe inducing”, inaccurate, “a perversion of a genre” oh, and my all-time favorite “wanna watch a movie about some alt bro/electro warrior trying to hang out with djs and be cool? go watch The Electro Wars”. (via Twitter).

The very creation of the piece has always stirred up controversy amongst EDM enthusiasts. There was always this pre existing notion that this piece would be the end all be all of Electro documentaries, those were never my intentions.

What’s interesting to keep in perspective is that before I decided to pick up a camera and tell a story, no one had any idea how to structure a narrative revolved around a music phenomenon that has only been around for less than a decade. I’m referring to blog-house, not Electro. There was no formula or preexisting model before I set out to make this film. It was simply a foggy idea floating around in my head. Nowadays, I step into a club and I see a myriad of video guys, or in many cases photogs, pretending to be videographers, parading around the dj booth. This was not the case two years ago…The scene has caught on to the power of video. And now with the advent of HDSLRs, it’s effortless for someone to shoot professional video of a Dj..

The first volume’s narrative is told subjectively through the point of view of the artists, with a Justice sub-plot thrown in the mix to keep you kiddies engaged for 90 minutes. Volume Two: Revenge of the Synth on the other hand, is a byproduct of my experiences as a filmmaker after the release of its predecessor. There’s more substance and layered character development this time around. It’s definitely a more vulnerable piece. It’s raw emotion, you get a feeling, a vibe, from my narrative and the interviewees, Afrojack, Crookers, Congorock, Bloody Beetroots, Benny Benassi, Skrillex, Excision, Drop the Lime, Chuckie, Tommy Lee, to name a few. The narrative also has a dicey and volatile edge this time around. Touching on controversial topics such as Afrojack’s comments on Diplo’s involvement with the “Pon De Floor” track. We’re aiming for a Fall release. Fret not soldiers, there won’t be an exaggerated wait this time around. We actually knew what we were doing when we began production on this one

The Electro Wars might not be a “good” film to some, but it’s undeniably an important one to the overwhelming majority. It’s pure… it’s candid …and it’s fucking raw.

Here’s the teaser for Volume Two, in case you missed it during the stream…

Also, making a HUGE announcement regarding another “sandwich” project next week. Look out for that.
