Datsik ft. Smash Gordon at the Highline Ballroom
Friday, April 22nd: the line was practically a block long in length, girls in neon headbands, wayfarers, and short shorts… I knew I had finally made it to the Highline Ballroom. After linking up with Carmine, Jason, Datsik, Smash Gordon, Dieselboy and a few others, we quickly scurried into the side entrance before any fans were able to acknowledge what was going on. As Jason, Carmine and Datsik approached the venue, I witnessed a group of girls asked if they were going to see Datsik, in which Troy (Datsik) light-heartily replied, “Who’s that?”
We had made it backstage with ease and once introductions were done and everyone had a beer in hand, I approached Troy and questioned him about his upcoming releases on Rottun Recordings (Excision’s label). He told me to expect “Domino” and “Rough Rider” in the near future. As I made my way downstairs to the stage, I found Smash Gordon behind the CDJ’s. The only way to describe Smash’s set is a hodgepodge of Dubstep and Drumstep, which had the crowd going bonkers. He played a personal favorite of mine… Skrillex’s remix of Benny Benassi’s “Cinema” and closed with DJ Kahled’s new anthem, “Welcome to My Hood”.
As Smashed walked off and Datsik came on, I had this gut feeling that things were about to get hectic. Sure enough, I was right. His track selections formed a mosh pit in the center of the floor, where most of the crowd was shirtless, exchanging sweat, and just all out raging. His mash up of ”Woo Boost” and “Nuke ‘Em” had the entire venue bobbing their heads and waving their hands, in an almost synchronized manner.
He ended his set with his remix of MGMT’s “Kids” which was melodic enough to give everyone a break from moshing, but pumped out enough bass to keep everyone dancing in slow motion. Overall, another great, but still rare, night of heavy dubstep in New York City.

Coachella Day One
Our first day at Coachella was pretty eventful. Sonny (Skrillex) killed it, as per usual. Dropped some new bangers for the fans. Can’t wait for the new Moombahton tracks he’s got cooking… A lot of surprises backstage as well. Got to hang with Usher, Pharell, Chromeo, A-trak, Afrojack, JFK from Mstrkrft, and a slew of other talented cats that I could only dream of meeting at one point. We’re truly blessed for this amazing opportunity to work with all these talented crew members. There’s a lot of hard working, dedicated individuals that spend hours putting together these intricate set ups. We tend to take production for granted when we’re simply playing the role of spectator, but truth of the matter is the behind the scenes aspect of these festivals is just as interesting as the performances themselves.
Finally got a chance to see Interpol live, what an amazing experience that was. Followed it up with the Chem Bros, who always aim to please. Had a surreal moment when the Chem Bros finished their set and walked right past Jason and I. Finally met Crystal Castles! Alice Glass is a sweet heart! So many people talk shit about her, but she’s such a cool down to earth chick. Super nice and humble. I had an epiphany last night, as I was walking around a drunken mess, and that was to go back to the trailer with Jason and edit a video for A-Trak.
Here it is y’all….
Nine 2 Five Debut Performance At Europa, Brooklyn
Our very own Carmine Rizzo AKA: Nine 2 Five, made his debut at Europa Night Club this past Friday. He performed for a crowd of two-hundred strong. Nine 2 Five is a rapper who is fed up with working for the “man” and vents his frustrations through heavy basslines, via Dubstep.
He’s currently working on his debut Mixtape “This Ones For The Puppets”, available in June.

The Electro Wars Streaming On Pitchfork
It’s official! The Electro Wars documentary will be streaming on Pitchfork TV April 22 – April 27. The highly anticipated documentary, which is the first of its kind, will finally be available for the world to see.
After tossing around different ideas, we found a temporal home with Pitchfork, at least until we can figure out who will “officially” distribute the film. The version that will stream on the site is the director’s cut and in all likelihood will not be the final version that will be available on DVD. The reason being clearances and all the other legal hurdles we must still overcome.
We are proud to finally share our labor of love with the world. It’s been a long time coming.

Miami Music Week Review Pt.1
Ultra Music Week 2011 had to be the most exhilarating, non-stop action filled extravaganza I’ve ever been a part of. Below is our interview with Ed Banger founder Pedro Winter AKA: Busy P.
The extravaganza, for us at least, kicked off Thursday at around 4:00 p.m., when we checked out an “always ridiculous” Skrillex set over at the W hotel.

Mr. Vega, Kid Cedek, EtcEtc,
We figured that the only fitting way to follow up a Skrillex show would be to head over to the White Room later that night for Smog Versus Basshead, and ultimately, more dubstep madness. The show featured Skream, 12th Planet, Datsik, Goldie, Craze, Juan Basshead , amongst many other great talents across five different stages, and once again, our boy Skrillex. Each of the three rooms encompassed by White Room were completed polluted with the filthy sounds of dubstep.

Congorock and Felix Cartal at No Sugar Added
Day Two started off with us meeting Chuckie over at the Fountainebleu, and riding out to Nikki Beach with him for the No Sugar Added show, which included such explosive acts as Felix Da Housecat, Armand Van Helden, Dada Life, Felix Cartal, and Bart B. More. As sick as the line-up was, we had to leave early to catch Skrillex’s set at Gansevoort’s private beach for the Beatport Beach Party. Later in the set, we were lucky enough to make it back in time for Congorock’s set, back in Nikki Beach.

Skrillex at Ultra 2011
I bring this up, only to paint a picture in your head of how truly insane Ultra week was for us. It was a constant influx of jumping from party to party, then back to party, then off to a new party – trying to capture footage of as many shows as possible. Unfortunately, we couldn’t be everywhere at once, because, as we found out on day one, we’re not the Justice league… we’re the Electro Wars Crew. Luckily, we had our good friends over at Vacay Vitamins getting some crazy coverage of the events we missed. Just to put it in perspective for you of how crazy it was, we had to miss out on the Dim Mak and Boyz Noise records party on Friday. On a regular night, those are both “must attends!” and we were kicking ourselves in the ass for missing the “triple threat set” by Laidback Luke, Afrojack, and Steve Aoki at party.

Deadmau5 at Ultra 2011
I am happy to report that we did make it out to the Mad Decent Moombah tone party at “Bar” that night. “Bar” looked like a rap battle location straight out of the film “Eight Mile”. I was half-expecting B Rabbit to jump out on stage at some point and bust a four-minute freestyle. It was the perfect place for me to rage my face off to some ridiculous moombah tone sets by Dave Nada and Dillon Francis, with a special appearance by label founder, Diplo. Tthis was easily the surprise highlight of my Ultra experience.
