URB Magazine Interviews Stephen Vasquez

PREMIERES
The film has been premiered in the following places:
- Sweden, Malmo Film Festival September 10, 2010
- Nova Scotia Film Festival September 14, 2010
- Stockholm Film Festival November 23, 25, 29 2010
The Electro Wars documentary is a labor of love that I have been working on for almost two years. The production has been harrowing, but it has been worth it. I have manned the project by myself, I reach out to talent, I shoot the interviews, and I have edited and marketed alone. The trailer has been well received around the world, in ten days it was watched 80,000 times without any publicity or marketing firm behind it. This has garnered attention from Atlantic Records, MTV, WMC, a plethora of Film Festivals around the world (Berlin Film Festival, Stockholm Film Festival, Atlantic Film Festival, Music Doc).

The film’s premise revolves around Electronic Dance Music, but it is much more than that. It encapsulates any type of music that is created through electronic means, i.e, Reggae, Hip-Hop, Punk, Indie Rock etc. I explore other genres of music in the film and celebrate the infusion of all these different styles of music with dance music. This film is the first of its and it has never been documented before.

FADER Magazine on ASAP Rocky’s “Purple Swag”
http://www.thefader.com/2011/07/06/video-asap-rocky-purple-swag/
“Uptown smoker and wave/swag/screw fusionist ASAP Rocky pays a proper homage to the greatest rap song of the last decade, “Still Tippin.” Speaking not only to a post-region rap world, but a post-race one as well, the video features a blonde chick in golds, lip syncing with an uncomfortable swagger that recalls the Pink Shirt Girl of Rebecca Black fame. As a pioneering white wearer of fronts and awkward swag possessor himself, Paul Wall would most certainly approve.”

MTV – The Electro Wars crew in Miami

“Vasquez and his production partners, Carmine Rizzo and Jason Ano, are a trio who never say no. A year after the documentary first started buzzing at the 2010 Winter Music Conference, the crew, now operating under the name One & Only Productions, scored a gig as Skrillex’s touring camera crew, covering shows all over the States, all while the trio are in full swing on production for the documentary’s sequel, “The Electro Wars: Revenge of the Synth.”"

The Village Voice on ASAP Rocky’s videos
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/music/2011/08/asap_rocky_peso_video.php/
“He reps Harlem pretty hard, but his beats are so chopped and screwed you’d think he was a student of Mike Jones. Also, he seems to be bringing back grills. (This is not a complaint.) And he’s even got a co-sign from Drake!”

Good Morning Arizona

PHOENIX – Go to any party and chances are you’ll hear Skrillex.
His real name is Sonny Moore and he looks like he’s about 17. Folks like Lady Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas have hired him for remixes. He just loves music and his fans love him, which is no wonder why his Dubnation Tour stop at the Venue of Scottsdale was completely sold out.

“To some, Skrillex is known as ‘the guy who had the Win Butler haircut b4 Win had it. But to others, he is known as the Prince of Dubstep, bringing the sounds of dubstep 2 the masses, building a tribe of fans who truly love him as a DJ, and also as a person. He is Sonny Moore, the greatest American dubstepper in the history of Civilization.”

DUMMY Magazine on ASAP Rocky’s “Purple Swag”
http://www.dummymag.com/videos/2011/07/13/asap-rocky-purple-swag/
“This cinematic, coiled song is easier and sadder than spending money and combines three of the best rap things ever – psychedelic/melancholic screwed beats from Houston and visceral realist New York rap – with gold lower grills and synesthesia, two of the best non-rap things. What else is great about this? The video, directed by Jason Ano is cool.”

” I’m still hyped on this one. The homie ASAP Rocky has released a handful of songs and videos on the internet via Youtube, but not until “Purple Swag” aka “Everything’s Purple” has he seen such success. I pride myself on being able to read the market and pin point trends before they happen. Mark my words what you are about to watch or perhaps just finished watching is a dope song with an equally cool visual that as far as i can tell is sure to go viral.”

Hypetrack on Skrillex
http://hypetrak.com/2011/06/skrillex-rock-n-roll-will-take-you-to-the-mountain/
“With a much revealing title like “Rock n Roll (Will Take You to the Mountain),” the theme of Skrillex’s latest single is loud and clear. Thus, the Los Angeles-based bass aficionado unleashes an accompanying video. Accordingly, it features lots of footage on the road and numerous cameo appearances by the likes of Deadmau5, Steve Aoki, Diplo and more.”
